How we lend responsibly

Affordability checks

Every application is assessed against your income, outgoings and existing debt. We will not approve a loan if repayments would be unaffordable under our stress-tested models.

Soft search first

We run a soft credit search at quote stage — no footprint, no credit score impact. A full search only happens when you formally accept and apply.

Hardship support

If you experience financial difficulty during your loan, contact us immediately. We offer payment deferrals, reduced-payment plans and will not charge additional fees for arranging these.

Clear pre-contract info

You receive a full pre-contract information document before signing — detailing your exact rate, total repayable, repayment schedule and your rights. Read it. Ask us questions.

14-day cooling-off

We provide a contractual 14-day withdrawal right from the date of signing — no penalty, no questions asked (other than interest accrued for the days held). Just notify us in writing.

Complaints procedure

We take complaints seriously. Our formal complaints procedure is available on our legal page. As an unregulated lender, the Financial Ombudsman Service does not apply — if we cannot resolve your complaint, you may seek independent legal advice or contact Citizens Advice free of charge.

Think carefully

Is this loan right for you?

Cash Train is high-cost short-term credit. It is not suitable for everyone. Before applying, please read the following carefully:

You should not apply if:

  • You are currently bankrupt, subject to a Debt Relief Order, or an Individual Voluntary Arrangement
  • The monthly repayments would require you to cut back on essential spending like food, utilities or housing costs
  • You are borrowing to pay off another high-cost credit product (debt consolidation using HCSTC is not appropriate)
  • You expect to need to miss or defer repayments at any point during the term
  • You are in persistent debt or your existing credit commitments already stretch your income

Cash Train may be appropriate if:

  • You face a genuine, unexpected expense that cannot wait (boiler failure, car repair, emergency bill)
  • You have regular income that comfortably covers the monthly repayments without cutting essentials
  • You plan to repay within the agreed term — or potentially early
  • You have checked whether a lower-cost alternative (credit union, bank overdraft, 0% credit card) is available to you and it is not
You’re not alone
